{"id":532,"date":"2012-07-19T22:12:17","date_gmt":"2012-07-19T08:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/?p=532"},"modified":"2012-07-23T10:24:40","modified_gmt":"2012-07-22T20:24:40","slug":"winter-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/?p=532","title":{"rendered":"Winter Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Well here we are in the glorious month of July.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Life on the Orchard is busy as always.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve been keeping myself occupied with pruning since the beginning of May.<br \/>\nI&#8217;m just over half way through the Orchard right now with all the Apricot, Peach and Nectarine Blocks done and just the Plum and Apple Blocks left to go.<br \/>\nIt may sound strange but I really enjoy pruning even when the temperatures\u00a0drop well below zero.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">My trusty old Hydralada has been my work companion throughout this winter and has only let me down on one occasion when it&#8217;s starter motor crapped itself!<br \/>\nBut once\u00a0the new starter motor arrived, we were back in business! I&#8217;m thinking about naming my friend. Any suggestions????<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As you can see in the photos below my trusty mate has stood by me through all weather conditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>On the nice days<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" title=\"Sam On Hydralada\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/samhobbsonhydralada1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"368\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nice Day To Be Pruning Nectarines<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>And the not so nice days<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"  \" title=\"Cold Day at Hercules Flat\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/colddayatherculesflat.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"368\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Nothing beats a -6c morning to let you know you&#39;re alive!<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ruby is looking forward in her spare time\u00a0to taking over the propagation of all the plants for our massive veggie garden this season as I will be slightly preoccupied running the Orchard.<br \/>\nShe&#8217;ll also\u00a0be flat out helping Mum run the Fruit Stall during the Fruit Season.\u00a0 Thankfully she has inherited Mum&#8217;s skill of multi-tasking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As a wee kid I thought all mothers could do ten things at once!!\u00a0 I was rather surprised when I discovered this wasn&#8217;t the norm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Mum is balancing her time right now, running the house by keeping everyone fed, tending to her vast gardens and pruning the odd Nectarine tree.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve put my foot down and only allow her to prune 1 or 2 trees a day as opposed to 20 as I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s a good idea having my mother catching Hypothermia on a -4c morning!<br \/>\nShe has relucantly agreed and hugs me often saying &#8220;Thank You!!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>It may have been cold recently but Hercules Flat is a beautiful little place to live.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>This photo was taken from our sunroom early this morning of the hills at the back of the Orchard.<br \/>\nTruly impressive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Sunrise at Hobbs Orchard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/sunriseathobbsorchard.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>And I snapped this one from out in the Omega Plum Block.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Plumblock Sunrise\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/plumblocksunrise.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So apart from being a bit cold these past few months, everything is plodding along nicely in Hercules Flat.<br \/>\nStay tuned for future updates including more photos from out in the Orchard.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, I&#8217;ve really appreciated all the emails and phone calls of support over the past few months whilst I&#8217;ve been learning how to run the Orchard.<br \/>\nThe transition from Web Designer to Orchardist\u00a0has certainly been\u00a0an interesting journey!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And on a lighter note here&#8217;s a couple of photos of me and Mum and me and Ruby on a rare day out to Queenstown.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Sandra and Sam\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/sandraandsam.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"368\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Ruby and Sam\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/rubyandsam.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"428\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Cheers<\/p>\n<p>Sam<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well here we are in the glorious month of July.
