{"id":555,"date":"2012-09-18T22:37:08","date_gmt":"2012-09-18T08:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/?p=555"},"modified":"2012-09-18T22:37:08","modified_gmt":"2012-09-18T08:37:08","slug":"spring-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/?p=555","title":{"rendered":"Spring Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Peach Blossoms\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/hobbsorchardspring1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Spring is well and truely underway here at Hobbs Orchard.<\/p>\n<p>The blossoms are out and the sweet smell of pollen is filling the air.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Apricots in Blossom At Hobbs Orchard\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/hobbsorchardspring2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The weather has mostly been on our side with only a few cold and wet days keeping the bees in their hives.<br \/>\nWe did try to talk them into working in the rain but to no avail.<br \/>\nApparently they don&#8217;t appreciate being told to &#8220;harden up&#8221;. Who knew!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Frostfighting Apricots\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/hobbsorchardfrostfighting.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><br \/>\nThe arrival of blossoms not only heralds the start of the Spring; it also means that the frost-fighting season has begun!<br \/>\nNothing\u00a0makes me\u00a0feel more alive than\u00a0leaping out of bed when the frost alarm sounds at some ungodly hour of the night, throwing my gear on and running around the Orchard, thermometer in hand to monitor the temperature and decide whether or not I need to crank up the overhead sprinklers.<br \/>\nSo far this season I&#8217;ve had to crank up\u00a05 times.<br \/>\nOne of the longest sessions was last night where we had to run the sprinklers from 9:08pm until 9:15am the next morning!<br \/>\n12 hours of frost fighting\u00a0certainly\u00a0makes a truckload of ice!!!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m grateful that I have my &#8220;support crew&#8221; (Mum and Ruby) back at the house keeping the fires stoked up and the jug boiled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Frostfighting Apricots\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hobbsorchard.co.nz\/blog\/hobbsorc_blog\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/hobbsorchardfrostfighting2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spring is well and truely underway here at Hobbs Orchard.
