P.Y.O Has Started!!!!

Let the P.Y.O Season begin!!
We are starting our P.Y.O Sundrops today (Saturday)!!!!
The price is still $1.90 /kg and the trees are absolutely laden with fruit this year and thanks to a couple of lovely hot days the sugar levels are right up!

Speaking of weather, the forecast is looking great for the weekend as well so it should be a great weekend for picking fruit!

Mum and Ruby will also have the Stall fully stocked with a wide selection of 1st ($3/kg) and 2nd ($2.50) grade boxes of Sundrops so now is the perfect time to get your bottling and freezing Apricots!

Sundrop Apricots Are In Full Swing

The Sundrop Apricots are in full swing!!!

We have a wide variety of 1st and 2nd grade Sundrops available on the Stall so now is the perfect time come and get your preserving Apricots.
Sundrops are great for freezing or bottling (as well as eating!).

On Saturday the 12 we are starting our P.Y.O Sundrops. The P.Y.O price is still $1.90/kg

Nectarines and Peaches are still another 10 – 14 days away thanks to the terrible weather we’ve been having up here lately.

P.Y.O Starts On Saturday the 12th

We will be starting our P.Y.O Sundrop Apricots on Saturday.
The price is the same as last year, $1.90/kg.

We have a great supply of boxed Sundrop Apricots available on the Fruit Stall in both 1st ($3/kg) and 2nd ($2.50/kg)Grade.
We also still have some tasty Wilson’s Early plums available as well.($3/kg)

Boxed Sundrop Available On The Stall!

We now have a limited supply of boxed Sundrop Apricots available on the Fruit Stall.
Both 1st($3/kg) and 2nd Grade($2.50/kg) are available.

Over the next couple of days we will have a good supply available on the Stall as finally the Sundrops are all starting to ripen up nicely.
About time!

We Need Sun!

Here’s a photo of “Baby Bird” sunbathing on the pathway to the Fruit Stall.
So happy and so relaxed.
Wouldn’t it be a great life. But then you would have to keep one eye open for a cat so maybe not!

Now for fruit updates.

P.Y.O Sundrops will hopefully start at the end of next week – about the 10 or 12.

It is a nightmare right now trying to predict as to when the fruit is ready due to the lack of sun!

On the Stall right now we have Wilsons Early Plums which are very popular and we will have them for the next 10 days.

The Cherries Have Been Obliterated!

We have no Cherries left thanks to an all day downpour yesterday!
All the Cherries left on the trees have been completely blown and are now useless.
Ain’t life just grand somedays!!

Anyway it’s not all bad news.
We’ve just started our Wilson’s Early Plums today!
They are a gorgeous red-skinned, yellow flesh Plum which are ideal for eating or preserving.

So at the moment on the Stall we have:

Wilsons Early Plums 1kg bag of 1st grade: $3; 2kg box of 2nd Grade: $5
Broad Beans 1kg bag $5

We are still expecting to begin P.Y.O Sundrop Apricots on January 10 so stay tuned for further updates!

Don’t Mention The Rain!!!

Well today’s weather was certainly interesting.
At around 1:20pm we had a very heavy downpour complete with thunder and lightning.
This lasted for around 3 hours off and on. Not ideal growing conditions for Cherries!!

Everytime the rain stopped I jumped on the tractor and blew the water off the Cherries with the sprayer to try and prevent them splitting but I won’t be able to tell how much damage has been done until tomorrow morning.
Certainly no damage to any other fruit including the Apricots as they are not quite ripe enough to be affected.

We’re just happy we didn’t get any hail!! If we had then it would have been a diffent outcome!

Anyway on the Stall at the moment we have:

Cherries (Wlliamson and Stella), 1kg for $8
Broad Beans, 1kg @ $5

Fruit Update

At the moment the Sundrop Apricots are starting to show some nice colour so hopefully we will be starting P.Y.O on January 10.
The Roxburgh Red should be ready about January 16, the Moorparks around the 22 and the Stevens Favourite a little bit later on.

P.Y.O Peaches and Nectarines should be ready about January 20.

If we have a nice bit of hot weather then everything will probably be ready a little earlier but I’ll be posting regular updates on the blog so you’ll all be kept up to date with the latest.

And on another note, I bet my own record last night.
I shot 25 rabbits in 30 minutes while out moving my irrigation.
Let the good times roll!

Still Got Cherries!!

A lovely 27c day here in Hercules Flat.
I can hear the Apricots ripening as I write this blog so hopefully by January 10 it will be all go with P.Y.O!

We only have Cherries, Broad Beans and Eggs on the Stall at the moment.
The Cherries are Dawson, Lapin and Stella.
We are keeping our fingers crossed for the next variety of Spuds to start in the next week.
The rabbits got 50 lettuces in one night, finished the last of the peas off and nibbled the tops of the carrots!!!!
Ruby also lost quite alot of Lemom Balm, Parsley and Marjoram plants.

At about 10pm each night after I move the irrigation for the last time I go and shoot around 20 rabbits and if I wasn’t so tired I could easily get another 20 or 30.

I think it’s safe to say that Roxburgh is experiancing a plague of rabbits!!!

End of 2012

Since it’s Christmas Day I’ve decided that instead of the usual Fruit Updates, we need something different.

Heres Our Favourite Picture of 2012: Me and Ruby at Queenstown back in October

Our Favourite Joke of 2012 (Sent to us by both Dr Dave and our friend Racheal G. )

My  wife and I were sitting at a table at her high  school reunion, and she kept staring at a  drunken man swigging his drink as he sat alone at a nearby table.
I asked her, “Do you know  him?”
“Yes”, she sighed,
“He’s my old  boyfriend.  I understand he took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago,  and I hear he hasn’t been sober since.”
“My  Goodness!” I said, “Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?”

Merry Christmas!
